ConocoPhillips

Employee-Driven Involvement

ConocoPhillips Canada employees are proud to live and work in the communities in which we operate. Examples of employee involvement include:

  • Revitalizing Commemorative Memorial Park in Bluffton, near Rimbey, Alberta. With the support of the company, over a dozen employees donated time, supplies and equipment to move the memorial rock, re-contour the park, install flower beds, haul in crushed rock, refurbish park signs and install a protective area to keep vehicular traffic from the site.
  • Participating in Edson’s yearly trade show. Staff from Edson and Niton Junction, Alberta, co-sponsored a booth for the Edson Scouts to help them raise awareness, increase membership and generate funds for their organization in 2008. In 2009, we hosted a general information booth and sponsored a petting zoo, which was visited by most of the children at the trade show.
  • Supporting the breakfast program at St. Matthew School in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. We are the only industry sponsor for this initiative and staff members also volunteer their time to serve breakfast. Al Libby, principal of St. Matthew, said, “We are extremely grateful for ConocoPhillips’ generous support of our program. We are hopeful that other corporations will take up the cause with ConocoPhillips and that we will eventually be able to expand our program to five mornings a week!”

Economic Engagement

To increase the benefit communities receive from our operations, we support efforts including:

  • Providing information and assistance to help prospective contractors meet the safety and procurement standards necessary to work for ConocoPhillips Canada.
  • Supporting organizations that assist oil and gas producers in identifying qualified local contractors and those that help contractors develop the qualifications and contacts needed to get opportunities in the oil and gas industry.

Energy Services BC

Through our membership in the Horn River Basin Producers Group, we support Energy Services BC. Energy Services BC is a member-based non-profit organization representing a wide variety of safe, efficient and productive British Columbia-based oil and gas service and supply companies. It helps to connect local contractors with potential companies requiring their services in the energy industry.

Working with Energy Services BC in Fort Nelson, the Producers Group funded the establishment of a new liaison or procurement support position. The position helps service-sector companies to prequalify for oil and gas industry contracts and bidder lists in the Horn River area by providing guidance on:

  • Completing information requirements of various safety and contractor management systems used by industry.
  • Completing bid tenders and contracts.
  • Pre-qualification or reporting requirements requested by industry.

ISNetworld Information Workshops

ISNetworld is an industry-supported software program that ensures contractors are compliant with provincial regulations, and is a prerequisite for bid consideration. Considered an industry standard, it requires significant effort from contractors up front, but is successful in ensuring our contractors understand ConocoPhillips’ commitment to safety, quality and efficient delivery of services. We recognize that many contractors may need assistance in understanding and achieving compliance and we are committed to supporting them through these workshops.

To help existing and potential contractors in complying with ConocoPhillips’ Procurement Policies, we hosted a series of ISNetworld workshops. Workshops were held in communities across Alberta and British Columbia in 2009 including Edson, Hinton, Grande Prairie and Fort St. John. Over 200 contractors attended the Grande Prairie session alone.
