ConocoPhillips

Collaborating with Industry

At ConocoPhillips we believe that by working together with industry, government and communities, we can develop common solutions and a shared vision for the future. We seek opportunities across Western Canada to participate, collaborate and work with all stakeholders to build a more sustainable future for us all.

Beaverlodge Energy in Action Environmental Stewardship Initiative

ConocoPhillips participates annually in Energy in Action events across Western Canada Gas. In 2009 we led the Canadian Association of Petroleum ProducersEnergy in Action initiative in the Town of Beaverlodge, Alberta. This initiative encouraged sustainable development thinking amongst local grade four students by engaging them in the restoration of the banks of the Beaverlodge River. Along with the students, participants from industry, the Alberta Conservation Association, the county of Grande Prairie, Ducks Unlimited and the town of Beaverlodge spent the day planting willows and spruce trees along the river. Not only did this initiative support a sustainable development project, it promoted the collaboration of the major stakeholders in the area.

Peace Arch Multi-Industry Group Emergency Response

In 2009 we led the development of the Peace Arch multi-industry group emergency response process in Grande Prairie to enhance industry’s ability to respond to an emergency. In the event of an emergency, a mutual assistance agreement provides multiple emergency responders and reduced reaction times. The group has a membership which includes the Energy Resources Conservation Board, energy and forestry industry partners and local municipal governments.

East Central Alberta Cumulative Effects Pilot Project

From the summer of 2008 though mid-2009, ConocoPhillips Canada joined representatives from Alberta Environment and other community leaders in a community-led project in Camrose, Alberta. The East Central Alberta Cumulative Effects Pilot Project aimed to bring stakeholders together to address the overall impact of our cumulative activities on the environment and impacted communities. A series of scenario-planning workshops were held to develop a shared understanding and commitment of the future of east-central Alberta. Through integrated planning, the pilot clearly demonstrated that industry, governments and communities can work effectively together to define a sustainable future.
