Managing the Labour Challenge

Although the recent economic downturn has eased labour pressures, an aging industry workforce and continued expansion of projects in the oil sands and across Canada has made attracting and retaining skilled labour an ongoing and long-term challenge for the industry.

We expanded our recruitment efforts to find the right talent and continue to be creative in sourcing the right people to work for us. For example, in 2008, we unveiled an award-winning recruitment campaign called Work With Phil, which invited students of all disciplines to learn more about “Phil,” a personification of ConocoPhillips Canada. The campaign was a huge success, generated increased interest in the opportunities at our company and resulted in some excellent new employees.

Embracing Diversity

We strive to have a workforce that represents and reflects the communities in which we work and are committed to fostering a diverse workforce at ConocoPhillips Canada, including increasing career opportunities for Aboriginal peoples.

We continue to support diversity initiatives and ensure all of our employees understand their personal behaviours support an inclusive work environment.
