Education

One part of helping a community prepare for its future is equipping its youth with practical skills to allow them to achieve their full potential. That is why half of our annual contributions are directed toward educational programs. By supporting these programs where we work and live, we help communities strengthen their economic base and train their future workforce.

Post-Secondary Education

ConocoPhillips Canada partners with many prominent Canadian post-secondary institutions to provide youth with practical skills to help them achieve their full potential. Our support builds our relationship with educational institutions and the students who may become ConocoPhillips employees. We also support students through scholarships including:

  • The Centennial Scholarship Program, which supports young Canadian visionaries who have a drive to make a difference in the future. The program includes eight scholarships of up to $20,000 each.
  • Trades Bursaries, which award 14 trade students per year up to $2,500 toward tuition, books and living expenses.
  • The Aboriginal Awards Program, which supports up to 20 Aboriginal students per year pursuing high school upgrading and post-secondary education with grants up to $3,000. Winners of Aboriginal Awards are also eligible for other scholarships and bursaries ConocoPhillips Canada offers.
  • Various other scholarships, including Calgary Board of Education Scholarships, Aspen Family and Community Network Bursaries, Arctic Scholarships, Glen Rudy Scholarships and Sir Wilfred Laurier Scholarships.

Science Alberta Crates

We’re helping make science and math interesting and hands-on through our support of the Science Alberta Foundation’s Science-In-A-Crate program. This program provides curriculum-based learning ‘crates’ throughout Alberta and the Northwest Territories. The crates provide teachers with interactive activities, games, experiments and tools that touch on subjects including enhanced oil recovery, light, chemical engineering, aquatic ecosystems and waste. Since 2005, we have funded six science crates, four of which are engineering crates. ConocoPhillips Canada’s staff also played a role in developing the material for some of the crates.

Though the Science Alberta Foundation is a provincial initiative, we negotiated with the Foundation to make one extra copy of each crate we sponsor available to schools in the Northwest Territories. A representative from Inuvik’s Beaufort Delta Education Council manages shipping the crates to requesting schools.
